A strike of truck drivers has begun on the border of Russia and Abkhazia, local opposition publics report. According to them, drivers of trucks loaded with mimosa blocked the entrance to Russia from the Abkhaz side of the checkpoint "Psou".
The main demand of the protesters is an immediate solution to the problem with the export of mimosa. According to the drivers, the flowers began to deteriorate due to prolonged downtime, which threatens losses for suppliers.
As EADaily reported, these days people who cannot take out mimosa for sale began to gather on the Abkhazian-Russian. The Quarantine service of Russia found California thrips in one of the batches. They recorded a video message to the country's leadership asking them to solve their problem.
On February 25, Acting President Valery Bganba held a meeting with Acting Minister of Agriculture Beslan Dzhopua on this issue. Jopua said that the Ministry of Agriculture is dealing with this problem.
"Three days ago, the Russian quarantine service reported that California flower thrips was found in a batch of mimosa. Our quarantine inspection has its own laboratory, where exported agricultural products are systematically checked. Nevertheless, having received this information, all available samples were checked at the border, and in general on the territory of Abkhazia. According to our data, thrips has not been detected," said Jopua.
According to him, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture contacted colleagues from Ministry of Agriculture and Rosselkhoznadzor. As it turned out, a ban on the import of mimosa has been introduced since February 22. Those parties that were registered before February 22 will be allowed to cross the border after laboratory tests, the minister said.
The first batches of mimosa in 2025 were imported to Russia from Abkhazia at the end of January. According to Krasnodar Customs, the first batch of silver acacia arrived on January 30, the second — on February 2, with a total volume of 590 kg, which arrived from Abkhazia through the Adler automobile checkpoint.
The main deliveries of mimosa fall at the end of February and the first days of March. Last year from Abkhazia to Russia imported 240 tons of mimosa.
