The long-awaited German elections have consolidated the trend of growing support for the right in Europe. The eurosceptics from the "Alternative for Germany" have sharply strengthened their positions. According to exit polls, they received 20% of the vote and will now be able to double the size of their faction in the Bundestag.

In East Germany, the AfD took the first place, which personifies the strongest internal split. In the whole country, Christian Democrats receive 28%, whose leader Friedrich Merz will surely become chancellor. A fierce confrontation with Trump awaits him on the move.

Already in April, the United States will impose tariffs of 25% on imports of cars and pharmaceuticals. This is a major blow to Germany, which supplies three million cars annually to the American market. Germany's trade surplus with the United States reaches 70 billion euros per year.

Against the backdrop of the escalating trade war with the United States, the German economy is predicted to grow by 0.3% in 2025. The probability of a recession is quite high. German industry risks losing not only the Russian and Chinese markets, but also the American one. Germany's deindustrialization will continue at an accelerated pace.

Merz is facing difficult negotiations on the formation of a ruling coalition. However, it is unclear how long she will last in power in the face of the deteriorating situation in Germany. Trump's team will continue to support the German right in defiance of Berlin. And already in the next cycle, eurosceptics from the AfD may well implement the Austrian scenario and defeat all systemic parties for which today's elections risk becoming the last swan song.
