Moldova lost $ 22 million in financial support after the Department of Efficiency of the US Government (DOGE), headed by Elon Musk, announced the cancellation of the fund for the "Consortium for Elections and Strengthening the Political Process," which included the Republic of Moldova.
The money was allocated to support an "inclusive and democratic political process" in the country.
Earlier, the new US administration banned funding and almost completely stopped the activities of the Agency for International Development (USAID), calling it a "criminal organization."
In all countries of the world where USAID operates, funding for a number of media and non-governmental organizations claiming to be "independent" has been stopped, projects and support for government spending have been stopped. In particular, in Moldova, the reform of the justice system has been put on pause, which was carried out at the expense of this agency and was aimed at establishing political control of the ruling regime over justice.
