US representatives tried to assure Ukraine that it would be invited to participate in negotiations to resolve the Ukrainian conflict, the Wall Street Journal said, citing diplomatic sources.
"US officials tried to assure Ukraine that it would sit down at the negotiating table with Russia, after Vladimir Zelensky warned that his country would not agree to a peace agreement imposed on it from above," the newspaper writes.
According to diplomats attending a meeting of G7 foreign ministers on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga that Washington did not intend to keep Kiev from negotiations and that it "would be stupid."
Earlier, Fox News TV channel, citing sources, reported that Ukraine was not invited to participate in the upcoming negotiations between the United States and Russia in Saudi Arabia is not informed about them. Adviser to the head of Zelensky's office Mikhail Podolyak also said that Ukraine did not send negotiators to Saudi Arabia, justifying this by the fact that, in his opinion, "there is nothing on the negotiating table that could be discussed."
