The United States wants Ukraine to hold elections before the end of this year, especially in the event of a truce at the front. This was stated by the special representative of President Donald Trump, Keith Kellogg, according to Reuters.
"In most democratic countries, elections are held during the war. I think it's important that they do that. I think it's good for democracy. This is the beauty of a solid democracy when you have more than one person who can potentially run," said Kellogg, quoted by the publication "Country".
The White House is also discussing whether to insist on a cease-fire before trying to conclude a long-term deal, two sources told the agency.
"If on Ukraine will hold presidential elections, the winner can take responsibility for negotiating a long—term pact with Moscow," the sources said.
