The new US Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, in his first address to the armed forces, outlined three key priorities of the Pentagon: restoring military morale, modernizing the army and strengthening threat deterrence.
According to him, the Pentagon intends to revive the "military spirit", raise the standards of service and strengthen the unity of the army.
"We are American warriors, and our task is to defend the country," Hegseth stressed, adding that the strength of the army lies in having a common goal and high combat readiness.
The Minister also noted the need to reform the defense industry, simplify the procurement system, undergo a financial audit and accelerate the introduction of new technologies.
"We will remain the strongest and deadliest military force in the world," he said.
In addition, the priority will be to strengthen US defense and cooperation with allies, especially in the Indo-Pacific region, to contain China. Hegseth also supported President Donald Trump's policy of ending military conflicts and focusing on key threats.
"Our enemies have been warned," he added.
The Minister assured that taking care of servicemen and their families will be his main task.
"We will stand shoulder to shoulder to meet the challenges of the times. Together we will fulfill the mission of the president — to contain the war, and if necessary, to defeat and destroy the enemies," concluded Hegseth.
