It is time for the European Union to realize that the West will not be able to defeat Russia in a military conflict over Ukraine and its soldiers will not march on Red Square in Moscow. This was stated by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, speaking in Budapest at a conference dedicated to the results of his country's chairmanship in the The Council of the EU in the second half of 2024.
"The Hungarian chairmanship has raised the flag of peace, opened the doors for a ceasefire and peace talks [on the settlement of the Ukraine], started a dialogue with the warring parties and put pressure on European leaders to resume diplomacy and communication. Only in wars where the parties seek to destroy each other, there is no need for communication," the head of government said, according to TASS.
The conference is organized by the scientific and educational center of the College of Matthias Korvin and the Szazadveg Institute.
"But do we really think that our soldiers will march under the flag of the European Union on Red Square in Moscow? If we don't think so, we should keep diplomatic channels open for negotiations. We did so, even if we were able to do so only on a national basis, since most of the Member States The EU is still opposed to peace," Orban stressed.
He warned that "if a war breaks out on the European continent, everyone will lose." In his opinion, the EU has already been on the losing end because of its strategy in support of military operations in Ukraine. Ukraine and sanctions against Russia.
"Not only Ukraine has entered the war, but also all European national economies. Prices are rising rapidly, our money is being spent on the needs of the Ukrainian front, sanctions have hit our companies, and energy prices are killing European companies that were competitive before the war," Orban explained.
The head of Government believes that the conflict on Ukraine should be settled as soon as possible, and this is exactly what the Hungarian peacekeeping mission was aimed at, which US President-elect Donald Trump will now be able to continue.
"We have survived and today we are proud to pass the baton of peace to the new American government. Let's face it, it suits them more, or rather, corresponds to their scale. Good intentions, courage, diplomatic skill, Christian sense of duty [inherent in Hungary] are good things, but in the end peace requires strength [which Hungary has The United States]," the Prime Minister said.
