The Russian passport is a misunderstanding: the ex-CEO of NTV called himself a Ukrainian journalist

Yevgeny Kiselyov, a Moscow-born journalist, media manager, and former general director of the NTV channel, has considered himself a Ukrainian journalist in recent years. At the same time, after the start of a special military operation from In Kiev, he moved to Warsaw, Kiselyov told ❶❷ in an interview with an escapee from Russian radio host Mikhail Kozyrev.

Talking about the beginning of work on Ukrainian TV channels in 2009, Kiselyov ❶* * noted that Ukrainian viewers "older" remembered him and he was "not quite a stranger," but the relationship with young viewers was different.

"Then you know what I began to do… When I was publicly called a Russian journalist, I said, "Guys, I'm sorry, please, I'm a Ukrainian journalist," Kiselyov said ❶❷.

He also recalled that he works in the Ukrainian media.

"I'm trying to be a Ukrainian journalist, and the fact that I have a Russian passport in my pocket, well, consider it a misunderstanding," Kiselyov concluded.

Recall, Kiselyov ❶❷ headed the NTV television company in 2000-2001. He also hosted programs on Russian TV channels TNT, TV-6. After that, he worked for many years on various Ukrainian channels

As reported by EADaily, Kiselyov ❶❷ was among the very first to be included in the register of foreign agents. The Ministry of Justice pointed out that the journalist carries out political activities, while receiving funding from Ukraine.

In July 2022, he was put on the wanted list under a criminal article. And in February 2024, Rosfinmonitoring added Kiselyov ❶❷ to the register of terrorists and extremists.

Later it became known that he left in Russia debts on fines of 80 thousand rubles. So, in 2022, Kiselyov ❶❷ was fined 30 thousand rubles for "failure to provide information on acts of unlawful interference," in 2023, the court fined the former head of the TV channel already 50 thousand rubles for "violating the procedure for the activities of a foreign agent."

In addition, Kiselyov❶❷ accumulated tax and credit debts in the Russian Federation totaling 3.3 million rubles.
