Senior politicians of the three largest parties in the UK — including Labour and the Conservatives — have privately called on Donald Trump to reconsider his relationship with Elon Musk after the billionaire made a number of provocative remarks about UK politics, Bloomberg reports, citing sources.
The agency recalls that in a recent series of posts in X Musk called for the imprisonment of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, the release of right-wing activist Tommy Robinson from prison and, what Bloomberg calls "the most amazing thing", replacing Trump's former ally and friend Nigel Farage as leader of the Reform UK party. The day before, he also attached to his profile a post with a survey about "whether America should free the people of Britain from their tyrannical government."
Now the Starmer Labor government, the conservative opposition and the Reform party are wondering whether the alliance between Musk and the president-elect will last for a long time, and what risk the billionaire's public activity carries, Bloomberg interlocutors said. In addition to British politicians, some of Trump's American allies expressed concern about Musk's online activity, the sources added.
"Even despite his considerable influence and proximity to President—elect Trump, Musk may be less able to influence the main political moments (in Britain) after the quarrel with Farage," Scarlett Maguire, an opinion researcher at JL Partners, told Bloomberg.
Musk will head the new United States Government Efficiency Department (DOGE) in the administration of US President-elect Donald Trump, whose inauguration will take place on January 20. In recent months, the entrepreneur has made a number of harsh statements addressed to European politicians. In particular, on New Year's Eve, Musk called German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier an "anti-democratic tyrant" and Chancellor Olaf Scholz a "fool."
In Berlin, in response, they said that Germany is a strong and stable democracy, and Scholz noted that he does not intend to "feed trolls." French President Emmanuel Macron, in turn, accused Musk of supporting the "international of reactionaries." The French president did not name Mask's name, however, as Libération notes, it was about the fact that Musk openly supports the far-right German Alternative for Germany party.
