Scholz retaliated with a mask: The fate of Germany is not for the owners of social networks to decide

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has urged voters not to let social media owners decide the fate of early elections next year. Scholz stated this in his New Year's address on television, The Guardian reports.

This call of the Chancellor was made against the background of the support of the right—wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) party by the American entrepreneur - owner of the social network X Ilon Mask. (Note that Musk also issued several unpleasant posts and comments to Scholz in his address.)

In a New Year's address on Tuesday, Scholz said that only German citizens have the right to decide "where Germany will go next" after the February 23 general election.

"This will not be decided by the owners of social networks," he stressed.

According to him, some people think that the more extremist an opinion is, "the more attention it will attract to itself." However, rather, according to Scholz, the fate of German society "will depend on the overwhelming majority of reasonable and decent people."

Without mentioning Musk or his platform X, Scholz called on fellow citizens to resist manipulation and defend their democracy.

"After all, it is customary to make wishes on New Year's Eve. What I want is that we do not allow ourselves to be deceived by each other," he said.

As EADaily reported, Elon Musk insulted German Chancellor Olaf Scholz by distorting the politician's name and surname, and also predicted that he would fail in the upcoming elections.

This is how Musk reacted to accusations of interference in the upcoming elections in Germany.

"Chancellor Oaf Schitz, or whatever his name is, will lose," Musk wrote on the social network X.

"Oaf" in English means "dumbass", and Shit is close in pronunciation to shit and translates as "shit".
