Syria decided to give Russia the opportunity to reconsider relations with the Syrian people, and therefore the militants from the opposition tried not to provoke the Russians.
This was stated to Syria TV by the leader of the armed groups that came to power in Damascus, Ahmed al-Sharaa, better known by the nickname Abu Mohammed al-Julani.
"We have given the Russians the opportunity to reconsider their relations with the Syrian people. We tried not to provoke the Russians so that they would reconsider their attitude towards us," the militant leader said.
It is impossible to understand from his statement whether it means that the new Syrian government will not insist on the liquidation of Russian military bases in the country.
But al-Julani absolutely unequivocally stated that his group does not intend to enter into an armed conflict with Israel. Leader Barmaleev said that the next stage in Syria is "a stage of construction and stability."
Earlier, EADaily reported that on December 14, a Russian cargo plane took off from the Russian Khmeimim airbase in the Syrian port city of Latakia and headed for Libya.
