The head of the government of the Canadian province of Ontario, Doug Ford, said he would stop supplying electricity to the United States if President-elect Donald Trump imposed large-scale duties on Canadian products, AP reports.
"We will make our list, and I'm sure other provinces will too. But we will go to the end, depending on how far it goes. We will go so far as to turn off their electricity," said Doug Ford after a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, whom Trump called the "governor."
"This fight will be 100% on January 20 or 21. We use all the tools in our arsenal to fight back. We cannot sit back and give up. We just won't do it as a country. And isn't it a shame, our closest friends and allies," added Doug Ford.
The AP notes that about 60% of US crude oil imports and 85% of US electricity come from Canada.
As reported by EADaily, Donald Trump promised that he would impose duties of 25% on goods from Canada and Mexico because of their inability to contain the flow of illegal migrants and drugs from these countries to the United States. Also earlier, Trump said that the United States should either stop subsidizing Canada and Mexico, or they should become the new states of America.
