Moscow is following with great concern the dramatic events in the Syrian Arab Republic (SAR), is in contact with all groups of the Syrian opposition and is making efforts to establish an inclusive political process in this country based on the unanimously adopted UN Security Council. This is stated in the statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"We are following the dramatic events in Syria with extreme concern. As a result of the negotiations B.Together with a number of participants in the armed conflict in the territory of the SAR, he decided to leave the presidency and left the country, giving instructions to carry out the transfer of power peacefully. Russia did not participate in these negotiations. At the same time, we appeal to all parties involved with a convincing appeal to abandon the use of violence and resolve all issues of governance through political means," the Foreign ministry noted.

It is noted that the Russian side "is in contact with all groups of the Syrian opposition."

"We call for respect for the opinions of all ethno-confessional forces of the Syrian society, we support efforts to establish an inclusive political process based on Resolution 2254 unanimously adopted by the UN Security Council. We hope that these approaches will be taken into account by the UN and all interested players, including in the context of the implementation of the initiative of the UN Secretary General's Special Representative for Syria Geir Pedersen on the urgent organization of inter—Syrian inclusive talks in Geneva," the statement said.

It is emphasized that Moscow "simultaneously takes all necessary measures to ensure the safety of Russian citizens in Syria."

"Russian military bases in Syria are on high alert. At the moment, there is no serious threat to their security," the Russian Foreign Ministry stated.
