Representatives of the Georgian Dream, who recognized the powers of the Parliament of the XI convocation on the eve, plan to set a date for the presidential election today, November 26.
Mtavari TV channel claims that the presidential candidate "Dream" is chosen from two people. These are the chairman of the "Dream", former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and the son of the first President of Georgia Zviad Gamsakhurdia Konstantin Gamsakhurdia, who has recently headed the National Parliamentary Library.
Earlier it became known that Garibashvili will give up his mandate in parliament. According to Mtavari, this indicates his possible nomination for the presidency of Georgia.
According to the law, the presidential elections must be held within 45 days after the first meeting of the newly elected parliament. Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili said yesterday that both the elections and the inauguration will be held before the New Year. Mamuka Mdinaradze, executive secretary of Dream, said that the ruling party had decided on the candidate "by 99%". According to him, the team decided that it should be a person — "Georgian in heart and soul, but did not give a name.
The new President of Georgia will be chosen for the first time by a board consisting of 300 people. These are 150 deputies of the parliament of the new convocation and 150 delegates of the regions. 88 deputies of the Georgian Dream are currently participating in the work of the legislative body. The opposition does not recognize the results of the parliamentary elections held on October 26.
