Assistant to the military commissar from St. Petersburg and his wife, who worked with him, are suspected of employing "dead souls", who were then sent to military service under a contract with the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation in the SMO zone. A married couple has been detained, a fraud case has been opened. This was reported by the press service of the regional GU of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
"Employees of the Economic Police Department of the St. Petersburg Headquarters, together with investigators of the General Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Rosfinmonitoring specialists and the military prosecutor's office of the Leningrad Military District, stopped the activities of an organized group that stole money from the budget of an energy marketing company by employing "dead souls" and concluding fictitious contracts on their behalf for military service. The organizer of the illegal activity was a married couple who worked at the military enlistment office," the St. Petersburg Police department's telegram channel reported.
According to the operative data of the investigation, in 2023, a 51-year-old assistant to the military commissar, together with his 38-year-old wife, were looking for citizens who were later fictitiously employed by an energy company through a 41-year-old employee of the personnel department working there. Then, on behalf of the "dead souls", non-existent contracts were concluded with the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation on military service and participation in a special military operation.
"In the future, such employees were entitled to monthly payments in the amount of 50 thousand rubles, as well as a one-time payment in the amount of 500 thousand rubles. The attackers appropriated these funds," the report says.
It is noted that at the moment the operatives have identified two fictitiously employed citizens, the approximate amount of damage to the budget has exceeded 1 million rubles.
"However, the operatives have reason to believe that the number of citizens employed in this way may be higher. A series of searches were conducted in the apartments and workplaces of the defendants. Documentation was seized, including employment contracts, payment orders and payment orders," the department said.
A criminal case has been opened under part 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud). The couple was detained on the basis of Article 91 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of the Russian Federation.
The investigation of the criminal case continues.
