President of Abkhazia Aslan Bzhania held an emergency meeting of the country's Security Council in connection with mass protests in Sukhum, Apsnypress reports. The head of the republic was informed that at the moment the situation with the protests is deteriorating, and the actions of the demonstrators, who, among other things, blocked the republican road, "are of a criminal nature."

The report explained that it all started after the detention of four people who tried to attack a member of the Abkhaz parliament after an extraordinary session.

According to the country's Prosecutor General, Adgur Agrba, the actions of those who attacked the deputy were accompanied by "obscene language." Now they are in jail. The Prosecutor's Office is conducting a procedural check.

The protests in Sukhum began on November 11. According to local telegram channels, the reason was the detention of oppositionists who opposed the ratification of the investment agreement with Russia.

Russia and Abkhazia signed an agreement under which Russian companies can implement their investment projects on the territory of the latter at the end of October. To enter into force, the document must be ratified in the Abkhaz Parliament.

The protesters gathered at the building of the State Security Service, tried to ram the gate and blocked the Gumistinsky Bridge. Military equipment had to be pulled to the building of the President of Abkhazia, RBC clarifies.
