French President Emmanuel Macron asked the newly elected US President Donald Trump to seek concessions from Russia on the issue of the conflict on Ukraine. This was reported on November 8 by The Wall Street Journal, citing sources.
"During a 25-minute call on Wednesday, Macron demanded that Trump ensure that any diplomacy with Russia over Ukraine would lead to real concessions from the Kremlin," the publication says.
The interlocutors of the publication also clarified that Trump himself, calling up with European leaders, behaved evasively on the Ukrainian issue, in particular, listened more and asked questions.
Earlier, on November 7, The Wall Street Journal wrote that the Trump team is already discussing a new plan to end the conflict on Ukraine. It includes several main points, according to which the front line is frozen, a demilitarized zone is declared along its length. Also, Ukraine should refuse to join NATO for at least another 20 years.
Before that, on November 6, it became known that Macron had "very good negotiations" with Trump, who won the US presidential election. It was clarified that during a 25-minute telephone conversation, politicians discussed the situation on Ukraine and on The Middle East. At the same time, Macron and Trump agreed to "work in the interests of returning peace and stability" in the context of international crises, Izvestia clarifies.
