The difficulties and problems of the war in Ukraine will become deeper and tougher, especially at the end of 2025 in 2026. This was stated at the Labour Party conference in Liverpool by British Foreign Minister David Lammy.
Negotiations with the White House on allowing Ukraine to use Storm Shadow missiles to strike deep into Russia are continuing, Lammy said, noting that this is a time for "nerves and courage."
"So this is a critical moment for courage, courage and patience, as well as for steadfastness on behalf of allies who support Ukraine," the minister said.
His words, apparently, were addressed to the wavering White House, concerned about the risks of escalation of the conflict if the ban is lifted, the newspaper notes.
Ukraine and its Western allies are discussing "what else might be needed" to help Kiev on the battlefield, in addition to trying to hold the front line, which is under acute pressure in the east.
"I, as Foreign Minister, of course, am not going to comment on operational details, because this can only help Putin, but there is a real—time discussion among allies about how we can support Ukraine as winter approaches," the British Foreign Minister informed.
It is noted that the former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and now the Ambassador of Ukraine to London, Valery Zaluzhny, attended the parallel event of the Labor Conference, which was organized by the Tony Blair Institute. He said that Ukraine "is still serious about winning this war," but it needs help. The Ambassador listed a number of requests.
"First of all, we need to have a sufficient number of modern weapons. Long-range air and ground assets are critically important. Lifting restrictions on the use of weapons for military purposes in Russia is crucial. This would help protect civilians from Russian missiles and planning bombs," the ex—commander-in-chief said.
He also called for further tightening of sanctions against the Russian Federation, Kiev's future membership in NATO, and in particular for a "political decision" to allow Western allies to "shoot down drones and missiles over Western Ukraine" using their own fighter jets and air defense systems.
The head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, on Saturday again called on US President Joe Biden to allow Ukraine to strike deep into Russia. The issue, he said, remained unresolved, despite the fact that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer personally discussed it with Biden nine days ago.
Starmer's meeting at the White House with Biden, at which they discussed this issue, in general, the war on Ukraine, as well as the Middle East and China, was deliberately restrained, the newspaper writes. No announcements about Storm Shadow were expected, but the lack of a briefing after the summit suggests that no breakthrough has been achieved.
