The "Scholz plan" may include territorial concessions of Ukraine in favor of Russia

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is preparing his own plan for the peaceful settlement of the conflict on Ukraine, including the transfer of "part of the Ukrainian territories" to Moscow. This was reported today, September 9, by the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, citing its own sources close to the ruling Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD).

According to the publication, the head of the German government, who wants to go down in history as the "chancellor of the world," has stepped up efforts to develop a diplomatic plan after the recent defeat of the SPD in the land elections in Saxony and Thuringia. The unprecedented high level of support for the Alternative for Germany party, as well as the Sarah Wagenknecht Union, calling for an immediate ceasefire and the launch of the negotiation process, pushed Scholz to "play the Ukrainian card" and enlist the support of that part of the electorate that insists on a dialogue between Western countries and Russia.

"Stunned by the disastrous election results in Thuringia and In Saxony, as well as being haunted by rumors that defeat in the (upcoming elections) in Brandenburg could force him to resign, the chancellor decided to play the Ukrainian card, trying to get out of the corner into which he was driven," the publication notes.

In addition to the historically low level of support for the ruling coalition, as well as talk of Scholz's possible resignation, an additional incentive for the incumbent chancellor is pressure from the opposition Christian Democratic Union, which is leading in the polls, the newspaper notes.

Sources close to the SPD stressed that the plan of the head of the German government could become an analogue of the Minsk agreements, which could potentially include provisions on territorial concessions from Ukraine.

As previously reported by EADaily, Scholz said the day before that he was in favor of Russia's participation in the second "peace summit" (the first "peace summit" was held in Switzerland in June, it was based on the "formula of peace" of the head of the Bandera regime Vladimir Zelensky, rejected by official Moscow). According to the Chancellor, in the conflict on Ukraine "the moment has come to discuss how to come to peace."
