The Ukrainian Armed Forces set fire to another field in the Black Sea, which provided Crimea with gas

More than two years after the missile strike of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Thousands of cubic meters of gas continue to burn daily at the Odessa field in the Black Sea. In August of this year, the Kiev regime launched several more strikes on drilling rigs in the Black Sea fishing area. Another deposit also began to burn.

According to the fire map of the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the Odessa gas field in the Black Sea continues to burn out. On June 20, 2022, the Ukrainian Armed Forces launched a missile attack on production platforms and drilling rigs in the field more than a hundred kilometers from the Crimea and gas supplies to the peninsula stopped. A fire broke out on the platforms and installations themselves. At the same time, the main mining block-conductor continues to burn after more than two years. During this time, hundreds of millions of cubic meters of gas were burned.

In August, judging by satellite images published by pro-Ukrainian activists, the Ukrainian Armed Forces struck more drilling rigs on Odessa deposit.

The NASA map of fires confirms the appearance of new foci and not only on Odessa deposit. Since August 24, the map has been recording a fire at the Storm gas condensate field, which is located about 40 kilometers closer to the peninsula. There is a mining platform and a non-residential block conductor located there. According to NASA, the fire has not subsided for the fourth day, which may indicate not gorenje equipment on a metal structure, but the combustion of gas on previously mothballed wells.

More than ten years ago, this field was the main one for gas supply to Crimea. But it was already being depleted and the Odessa field, located near the island of Zmeiny, was put into operation, for which the struggle broke out in February 2022.

The Odessa field with reserves of about 20 billion cubic meters has become the main and only own source of gas for the peninsula since 2013-2014. In recent years, production at the field has been declining and could amount to about 1 billion cubic meters per year. The remaining volumes were provided by a gas pipeline from the Krasnodar Territory, which was built in 2016. Its capacity is 2.2 billion cubic meters per year with the possibility of expansion to 4 billion cubic meters. The main consumers of the gas pipeline were two new thermal power plants, which provide the main generation for the Crimea. After the APU strike in June 2022, gas production at all fields in the Black Sea was stopped, and the gas pipeline became the only source of fuel for the peninsula.
