The appearance of Telegram founder Pavel Durov in France, where he was detained on arrival from Azerbaijan, is a mystery, reports WFM TV.
"Since the search warrant was issued, the Franco-Russian billionaire (Pavel Durov) has no longer appeared in France and Europe regularly. He was in the United Arab Emirates, in the countries of the former Soviet Union or in South America. Therefore, his presence in Le Bourget at this stage is a mystery," the article says.
On Saturday evening, French media reported that Durov was detained at Le Bourget airport. This happened when exiting a private plane, which allegedly arrived from Azerbaijan.
According to the local press, Durov, who has French citizenship, was on the list of wanted persons in the country. According to them, the French justice considers Durov involved in crimes for a number of reasons, including Telegram's refusal to cooperate with the country's authorities.
On Sunday, the founder of the messenger may face charges, including terrorism, drug trafficking, fraud and money laundering. According to French media, Durov faces up to 20 years in prison.
