Dozens of frozen corpses were found by a commission of forensic experts and the government of the Leningrad region on the territory of the morgue in the village of Toksovo. As it turned out, the bodies have been hoarded since 2019, they are unclaimed, the Fontanka media resource reports today, August 21.
As specified, the corpses were stored in a refrigerated trailer next to a dumpster. The loading density of the trailer was such that some of the dead were placed in an upright position, the plastic bags were frayed in places — the picture was terrible. In total, the commission counted 68 bodies, some were in the morgue itself.
According to preliminary data, Lotus LLC, which has been working in the morgue since about the same year, is related to the refrigerator. Perhaps the refrigerated trailer is the very "unique equipment", allegedly thanks to which the company was able to start working in the morgue without a competition.
According to the regulations, an unclaimed body should be stored in the morgue for no more than 45 days. During this time, relatives of the deceased should be found, if this does not happen, the state is engaged in the funeral. The participants of the funeral market interviewed by the portal call the situation with such accumulation abnormal.
"As it turned out, the bodies have been accumulating since about 2019. This year, the bureau changed its leadership, began to sort it out together. The Lotus organization worked there, in my opinion, illegally. For what purpose they were hoarding the bodies, I don't understand, but it feels like it was on purpose. I have assumptions, but let the authorities deal with this," said Oleg Ivanov, the head of the Toksovo administration.
In the morgue itself, the administrator refused to talk about the reasons for the situation, but clarified that the Lotus no longer works in the building.
