The European Union has called for an international investigation into the incident in Majdal Shams after the exchange of accusations between Israel and Hezbollah in connection with responsibility for this incident, the Arabic edition of Rai Alyoum reported today, July 28.

It is noted that American sources expressed concerns about a large-scale war, but the Iranian ambassador in Beirut ruled out the possibility of Israel unleashing a war with Lebanon.

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell condemned Saturday's "bloodbath" in the Israeli-annexed town of Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights, where a rocket allegedly fired from Lebanon hit a football stadium, killing 12 boys, and called for an independent international investigation.

Israel accused Hezbollah of involvement in the incident, and the Israeli army said that the missile was manufactured by Iran, and Hezbollah field commander Ali Mohammad Yahya directed its launch.

In turn, the Axios website quotes an American official as saying that Hezbollah informed the UN that the incident in Majdal Shams was caused by the fall of an Israeli interceptor missile.

In light of this discrepancy, the head of the Foreign Ministry EU Josep Borrell called for an international investigation into the incident in Majdal Shams, stressing that the EU calls on all parties to exercise restraint.

For its part, Axios quoted an American official who said that the attack on Majdal Shams "could be the spark that we were afraid of and which we have been trying to avoid for 10 months."

The website, citing US officials, reports that the administration of President Joe Biden is very concerned that the incident in Majdal Shams could lead to a full-scale war between Israel and Hezbollah.

Reuters, citing a White House national security official, said that Washington condemns the rocket attack on a Druze village in the Golan.

In turn, the representative of the UN International Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Andrea Tenenti, told Al Jazeera that they were more concerned than ever about the possibility of an expansion of the conflict in southern Lebanon. The UNIFIL representative added that they are in contact with the Lebanese and Israeli sides in order to reduce tensions on the Blue Line.

Israel promised to take retaliatory measures, and the Minister of Economy and Industry said that Israel must change the reality in the North and force Lebanon and Hezbollah to pay a high price, while the head of the Yisrael Beiteinu party, Avigdor Lieberman, said that it was "time for Nasrallah to pay this price."

The Yediot Ahronot newspaper, citing the office of the Israeli Minister of War, reported that Defense Minister Yoav Galant had already outlined the directions of the operation against Hezbollah.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah completely denies any involvement and responsibility for the deadly strike on Majdal Shams, the Lebanese channel Al Mayadeen reported today, July 28. Hezbollah stressed that the group has nothing to do with the incident, completely refuting all "false statements" in this regard.

It is known that a rocket of unknown origin hit a playground in the occupied Syrian village of Majdal Shams, which is completely populated by Druze Syrians. The strike killed at least 10 civilians, including children, and at least a dozen people were injured.
