A poll conducted in May and June by the Kiev International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) shows that 55 percent of Ukrainians would vote against any territorial concessions to Russia. However, the number of those who are ready to give up some territories if this leads to an end to the armed conflict has tripled over the past 12 months, and now 32% are ready to offer "territories in exchange for peace," the Kyiv Post writes today, July 24.
In general, in Ukraine, since May 2023, there has been a gradual increase in the number of citizens of this country who are ready to make territorial concessions to Russia in order to end the conflict. Despite minor differences between the regions of Ukraine, the trend continues to be an increase in the number of those who support the principle of "territory in exchange for peace": about a third of those who took part in the survey, the newspaper notes.
Among those who are ready to make concessions, 73% supported the construction of a "physical barrier" between Ukraine and Russia (apparently, this refers to the construction of a wall and other similar structures. — Ed.), the complete closure of borders, the introduction of a visa regime and full-fledged customs control.
At the same time, 46% of respondents believe that Russia seeks to "destroy the Ukrainian nation" and only 5% believe statements that Moscow seeks to achieve denazification and demilitarization of the neighboring country without violating its sovereignty and independence.
