Vietnam wants trade turnover with Russia to grow to $10bn

Vietnam is planning to increase its annual trade turnover with Russia up to $10bn, Vietnamese Foreign Minister Phạm Bình Minh has announced after a meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.

According to the Vietnamese diplomat, in 2017, the figure grew by 31% and totaled $3.5bn. Now Vietnam is interested in engaging Russia in its first nuclear power plant construction, cooperation in fuel, energy and trade fields.

Late December 2017, the countries signed a protocol on establishing joint ventures on manufacturing trucks and special-purpose machines in the territory of Vietnam.

It was reported earlier that the USA is trying to persuade Vietnam to buy American weapons instead of the Russian ones.
