Former Prime Minister of Armenia, opposition MP Hrant Bagratyan suggests organizing a referendum to see what the Armenians think about the idea to create an Armenian-Russian joint air defense system.
“In 1995, I personally signed an agreement for air defense cooperation with Russia. I am not against such cooperation. But today Armenian-Russian relations are quite controversial. We regard the Russians as our strategic partners and it is important that the Russians also regard us as ones,” Bagratyan said.
He said that such an agreement will benefit Armenia if Armenian-Russian relations continue to be friendly. “But who knows how it will work if our relations get worse,” Bagratyan said.
The Armenian parliament has been considering the agreement for two days already.
