Russia is trying to establish contacts with some groups of the moderate Syrian opposition, the Russian President’s Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Oct 29.
“We are looking for some moderate Syrian oppositionists who might join us in our fight with terrorism but we are not able to find them yet,” Peskov said.
Earlier EADaily quoted Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov as saying that Russia was ready to support the Syrian opposition. “What we need is to find people who will be part of armed forces fighting terrorism,” he said. On Oct 22, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he was not against contacts with the Syrian opposition against ISIL.
