The Slovak company supplied alternative water supply equipment to the Armenian NPP with the money of the European Union.

"The alternative water supply equipment supplied to the NPP by the Slovak company VÚEZ as part of the funded The EU of the project has successfully passed factory and acceptance tests, confirming full compliance with technical requirements," the Armenian NPP reports.

The project implemented by the Slovak VÚEZ included the supply of equipment for alternative water supply to the primary circuit, to steam generators, to spent nuclear fuel holding pools, to splash pools of the technical water supply system of responsible consumers and to desalinated water storage tanks.

"A set of auxiliary equipment and tools necessary for the operation of the systems was also supplied. The implementation of these measures further improves the safety and reliability of the NPP power unit No. 2, enhancing its ability to maintain critical heat dissipation functions in severe accidents," the NPP added.

The Armenian NPP remains the main source of electricity for the country. The second power unit with a capacity of 440 MW is in operation. Earlier, Rosatom reported on the progress of work on the re-extension of the life of the Armenian NPP.

"For obvious reasons, now any news that mentions the Armenian NPP and The European Union is becoming politically tinged. But in this case, everything is simple. The Slovak company VUJE in question has long been involved in the work at this station as a subcontractor and supplier, and the news says about another completed contract that was signed earlier," said Alexander Uvarov, Director of AtomInfo Center.

According to him, after the accident at the Japanese Fukushima-1 NPP, the Armenian NPP voluntarily passed stress testing under the European program, after which it received a number of recommendations that are now being implemented with the involvement of European companies: "How much these recommendations were really necessary is another matter."
