Legitimate representatives of Donbass will set the date for the elections in the region, said Andrey Purgin, chairman of the People’s Council of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR)
“Donbass voted for Alexander Zakharchenko, the head of the DPR, for Igor Plotnitsky, the head of the Lugansk People’s Republic (LRP), and for the members of the People’s Councils of the two republics. And it is them who should decide when and how the elections will be held here,” Purgin told the Donetsk News Agency when commenting on the latest statement by Sergey Levochkin, a representative of the Opposition Bloc in the Supreme Rada. Levochkin told Inter TV that the only possible mechanism of elections in Donbass is the one stipulated by the Ukrainian laws. Levochkin is sure that it is Ukraine’s Central Election Committee that should conduct elections and register the results.
“Poroshenko and Lozhkin (head of the Ukrainian President’s Administration) are behind this. They seek to force a unilateral decision on Donbass,” Purgin said. “I’d like to recall that under the Minsk agreements, all the decisions and draft regulatory acts related to Donbass must be coordinated with the DPR and LPR representatives. All the remaining is just amateur performance of the Kiev manipulators.” “We are concerned at how intensively the Opposition Bloc submits bills to Rada allegedly to fulfill the Minsk agreements,” he said.
