President of Russia Vladimir Putin has appointed President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov – whose presidency is about to expire on March 25 – as acting president until the elections to be held in September 2015. At his working meeting with Minnikhanov, President Putin said Tatarstan’s results under Minnikhanov were among the best ones in Russia.
“Your term is expiring,” Putin said addressing Minnikhanov. “Meanwhile, the results which the republic [of Tatarstan] has demonstrated under your leadership in recent years are among the best ones in the Russian Federation. There are many tasks. And they have been settled quite successfully so far. Therefore I’d like to ask you to perform the duties until elections in September.”
Minnikhanov, who has been heading Tatarstan since March 2010, thanked the president for the trust.
