Putin: The West, acting contrary to the UN Charter, let the genie out of the bottle

After the collapse of the USSR, Western countries decided to change the established rules of international relations in their favor and began to act contrary to the UN Charter, which "let the genie out of the bottle."

This comparison was made by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, during a meeting with Russian military sailors in St. Petersburg. His words are reported by the RIA Novosti news agency.

The Head of State said that the UN Charter is the basis of modern international law, and that the Soviet Union was one of the founders of the UN. But after its collapse, Western countries began to rule immediately in practice, as exemplified by the events in Yugoslavia.

"I'm not going to give estimates now — it's a complicated process. But the division of the Serbian people into different national apartments and so on. Decisions were made that did not comply with the Charter of the United Nations at all. They just let the genie out of the bottle," Putin stated.
