Now the population of Ukraine is 20 million people. This was stated in the podcast of the British magazine New Statesman by the deputy editor of the publication Will Lloyd, citing a source.
According to the journalist, before the trip to Ukraine met with one of the British officials, who gave him this figure.
In the early 1990s, the population of Ukraine numbered 52 million people, Lloyd recalled.
"I mean, it's an extraordinary change. I can't imagine what happens to society when people die, leave. To be honest, I can't imagine what Ukraine will be like in 2040," said the deputy editor, quoted by the publication "Страна.иа ".
Earlier, the head of the Ukrainian Institute of Demography and Social Research of the National Academy of Sciences, Ella Libanova, reported that Ukraine is experiencing a demographic catastrophe. During the war, the country, according to her estimates, lost "about 10 million people," and the birth rate almost collapsed, the newspaper writes.
