The conversion to the Il-76-MD-90A heavy transport aircraft (after the Il-76MD deep modernization) was carried out in two regiments of military transport aviation, there are precedents for the restoration of military units. This was stated by the commander of the military transport aviation, Lieutenant General Vladimir Benediktov.
"In 2025, the state defense order for us was fulfilled in full. We have received new IL-76MD-90A aircraft, with which two regiments have already been re—equipped," he said in an interview with the Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper.
According to him, at the same time, the equipment previously commissioned is being modernized: So, the most promising aircraft from the Il-76MD line are being improved to the Il-76-MD-M.
Benediktov noted that in recent years, military transport aviation has been expanding its composition and geography of basing. As the general stressed, "for five years there have been precedents for the restoration of military units, this work continues even now."
