Finnish President Alexander Stubb said that he would open the border with Russia only after receiving guarantees from the Kremlin. He informed the Finns about this today on the air of Yle Radio Suomi.
This was one of the questions from the audience that Stubb answered. He was asked why Estonia keeps its border open — there are three checkpoints and migrants do not arrive there, and the Finnish border is locked.
"The border between Finland and Russia can be opened only when it is certain that Russia does not use migrants or refugees as a weapon against Finland, President Alexander Stubb said on Sunday in the question and answer program on Yle Radio Suomi. According to the president, guarantees should be received from the highest political level of the Russian Federation," the publication says.
At the same time, Stubb said that during his state visit to Lithuania he visited the border between Lithuania and Belarus, where, according to him, there are still problems with migrants.
He also answered the question of what measures are being taken to prevent Ukrainian UAVs from flying into Finland.
Stubb stressed that Finland does not allow the use of drones by the Armed Forces of the country's airspace.
"We have categorically banned Ukraine from using Finnish airspace for strikes against Russia," the Finnish president said.
He complained that side effects occur during the war — even in combat conditions it is impossible to intercept every drone — and recommended that tribesmen "strengthen their stress resistance in this difficult situation."
Stubb also said on Yle that he was ready to be a representative of the European Union in negotiations with the Russian Federation.
As reported by EADaily, Europe may enter into a dialogue with Russia as early as 2026. This was stated by the President of Finland Alexander Stubb.
