The Kursk NPP, which has been repeatedly attacked by drones of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, launched the most powerful power unit in the Russia.
"Russia's most powerful innovative power unit No. 1 of Kursk NPP-2 with a VVER-TOI reactor unit with an electric capacity of 1,253 MW has been put into operation and officially transferred to the status of an operating one. All the necessary documents of the Rosatom State Corporation have been signed," the state corporation reports.
Since May 1, the VVER-TOI power unit No. 1 enters the energy and capacity market and will officially begin supplying electricity and capacity to consumers within the framework of the country's Unified Energy System, Rosatom noted.
"This is not only a technological success and a labor feat of a large team of builders and power engineers, but also a real embodiment of the connection of generations through the continuity of experience and innovation. Over the entire construction period, more than 90 thousand people and about 250 contractors and subcontractors took part in the project — from design and supply to commissioning and commissioning," said Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev.
According to him, the state corporation was confidently moving towards its goal, despite the difficult, almost combat situation in the south of Russia. The Ukrainian Armed Forces have repeatedly tried to attack the Kursk NPP with drones.
"In the coming years, three more such units will be built at this site, and the Kursk NPP will completely switch to a new generation of reactors, thereby increasing the safety of the entire domestic nuclear power industry," added Alexey Likhachev.
