It was hot at the plenum of the Central Committee of the Ukrainian Atomprofoyuz. One of the veterans said that repressions, overexposure of personnel, stabbings and even suicides of licensed workers are taking place at the NPP.

On the eve of the fourth decade since the Chernobyl disaster, the Ukrainian Trade Union of Nuclear Industry workers held a plenum of the central committee. It turned out to be much hotter than expected.

"I spoke yesterday at the plenum of the Central Committee of Atomprofoyuz on the topic: "Unexplored lessons of Chernobyl. Safety culture and work with NPP personnel during the war," writes Olga Kosharnaya, an independent nuclear safety expert on Facebook, who has worked for many years at the Ministry of Environmental Protection, Nuclear Safety and the State Committee for Nuclear Regulation of Ukraine.

According to her, in the conditions of conflict, work with NPP personnel is of paramount importance.

"And what do we see? Repressions against the personnel of the KhNPP (Khmelnitsky NPP), harassment and harassment of licensed personnel, an incident with overexposure of repair personnel in April 2026 at the KhNPP-2 level 2 on the INES scale, a stabbing at the South Ukrainian NPP and the suicide of a licensed person last year at this station. These are all the consequences of absolutely failed work with people...", — said Olga Kosharnaya.

According to her, instead of creating an atmosphere of trust and psychological support for workers in difficult times, the NPP management threatens them with job deprivation.

The expert noted that she appealed at the plenum to the leaders of the NPP trade unions to protect the rights of workers and promote the guiding principles of a safety culture in working with personnel.

"After the meeting ended for coffee, everyone shied away from me like the plague. Completely intimidated people, it's terrible to watch. And these are the leaders of primary trade union organizations!", — Olga Kosharnaya bitterly remarked.

The Ukrainian Atomprofoyuz also announced the holding of a plenum of the Central Committee. However, he did not report anything about Olga Kosharnaya's performance.
