The Ukrainian woman was not allowed into Poland because of the hundred—dollar bill - its radiation exceeded the natural background 1,905 times. This is reported by the Polish radio station RMF24.
At the border crossing in Medyk, border guards detained a 54-year-old Ukrainian citizen who was trying to smuggle into Poland is almost $10,000.
"The officers' attention was attracted by the signal of the radiometric gate, reporting a significant excess of the radiation level. After a thorough check, it turned out that the source of radiation was one of the hundred-dollar bills. The measurement showed that its radiation exceeds the natural background by 1,905 times. The analysis showed the presence of an isotope used in medicine. The border guards placed the banknote in a special container and consulted with the State Atomic Energy Agency," the publication says.
According to the Ukrainian, the money was intended to buy a car. For security reasons, however, she was refused entry to Poland and sent home with a banknote, the press service of the border department of Bieszczady reports.
This is not the first case of this kind. In December 2025, a Pole tried to transport an irradiated banknote across the border.
