Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that the leader of the Tisa party, which won the parliamentary elections in Hungary, Peter Magyar, has no authority to investigate an attempted sabotage of a gas pipeline in Serbia through which Russian gas is supplied to Hungary.
On the air of Serbian Radio and television, the head of state was asked to comment on the statement of the Magyar, who, according to the journalist, called for a thorough check of the ties between Vucic and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, as well as to investigate the circumstances of the appearance before the Hungarian parliamentary elections on April 12 of information about the preparation of sabotage on the gas pipeline.
"This (Serbia) is not his country, and he has no authority to conduct investigations in this country. We are conducting the investigation very professionally and objectively," the Serbian leader said.
Vucic stressed that Magyar has nothing to do with this investigation, but Serbian law enforcement agencies, as "good neighbors", will notify the Hungarian side when it is completed.
He added that the Serbian authorities will continue to discreetly inform the public about the progress of the investigation.
On April 5, the President of Serbia informed the Hungarian Prime Minister about the discovery of explosives by security forces in the municipality of Kanizh near the gas pipeline. According to Vucic, the undermining of this facility would cause great damage to the gas supply of the two countries for many days.
