US President Donald Trump announced the beginning of the naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. He wrote about this on the Truth Social social network.
"From this moment, the US Navy begins the process of blocking any ships trying to enter or exit the The Strait of Hormuz," Trump said.
The US Navy will intercept vessels heading into or out of the strait, as well as detain international ships that have paid Iran for passage through Hormuz, Trump added. "No one who pays an illegal duty will receive safe passage on the high seas," he stressed.
In addition, he promised that the United States would begin destroying mines laid by the Iranians in the strait.
"Any Iranian who opens fire on us or peaceful vessels will be blown to hell!" the American president threatened.
At the same time, he accused Tehran of not fulfilling its promise to open the Strait of Hormuz and called what was happening "global extortion."
According to Trump, other countries will take part in the blockade.
He also reproached Iran for its unwillingness to abandon uranium enrichment.
"The only thing that matters is that Iran is not ready to give up its nuclear ambitions," he stressed.
Earlier, Trump reposted a Just the News article on Truth Social under the heading "The Trump card the president holds if Iran won't bend: a naval blockade", which considers the possibility of a naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz as a potential trump card to put pressure on Tehran if it refuses to accept US conditions.
