Yuri Shvytkin, deputy chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee, has died. This is reported by the speaker The State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin.
"Our colleague Yuri Nikolayevich Shvytkin suddenly passed away," Volodin said.
Deputy chairman of the Defense Committee Yuri Shvytkin died at the age of 61, according to a statement on the website of the State Duma.
Shvytkin was born on May 24, 1965 in Krasnoyarsk. In 1986 he graduated from the Novosibirsk Higher Military-Political Combined Arms School named after the 60th anniversary of the Great October, in 1999 — the Academy of Management of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. From 1986 to 1992 he served in the 76th Guards (Pskov) Airborne Division. He was deputy company commander, deputy commander of a separate reconnaissance company, deputy commander of a parachute battalion. Performed special tasks in Baku (Azerbaijan), Fergana, Osh (Kyrgyzstan), Vilnius (Lithuania), Kirovabad, Yerevan, Leninakan (Armenia).
In 1992-2001 he served in the internal affairs bodies of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. He took part in hostilities in the Chechen Republic in 1995-1996. From 2001 to 2016, he was a deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. State Duma deputy of the seventh and eighth convocations.
He was awarded three orders of Courage, as well as medals "For military merit", "For distinction in military service" I degree, "For Military valor", "For merits in the fight against organized crime and terrorism", "For service in special forces". He has 117 parachute jumps.
