Lloyd's List: Iran opened the Strait of Hormuz through its waters — for money

The ships went through the Strait of Hormuz. However, each flight passes through the territorial waters of Iran, is coordinated with Tehran and paid. Lloyd's List writes about this.

"Iran has created a de facto 'safe' shipping corridor through its territorial waters in In the Strait of Hormuz, offering passage to verified vessels in exchange for payment. At least in one case, a payment of $ 2 million was reported," the specialized publication reports.

Sources told him that at least one tanker operator paid Iran a fee for passage through the Strait of Hormuz, and several other tankers passed after Iranian inspection and diplomatic interventions.

"Several governments, including India, Pakistan, Iraq, Malaysia and China, are believed to be discussing vessel transit plans directly with Tehran, where representatives of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have set up a vessel registration system to coordinate safe passage," Lloyd's List continues.

The publication gives an example of nine vessels that have already passed the strait through a "safe" corridor. Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi announced such a passage scheme, which does not include vessels associated with the United States and Israel.

Dimitris Maniatis, CEO of Marisks, said that currently each passage of vessels is considered individually and some governments are contacting the Iranian authorities to obtain permission for safe passage.

So, on March 13, two Indian tankers Shivalik and Nanda Devi passed through the strait.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told CNBC that the US allowed Iranian tankers to pass through the strait "to supply the rest of the world," and this logic probably applies to those vessels operating under the alleged Iranian scheme, according to Lloyd's List.
