The United States and Israel will not be able to defeat Iran in the war they started. This was stated by former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder in an interview with the newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung.
"I think what the Americans and Israelis are doing there is hopeless. In fact, this is a war that is also being waged for ideological reasons, which cannot be truly won," Schroeder said.
The ex-Chancellor of Germany also pointed out that the United States and Israel underestimate the strength of Iran's resistance, and everything that is happening reminds him very much of the war in Vietnam.
Assessing the actions of the current German government against the background of escalation in the Middle East, Schroeder noted that he supports the decision to refuse direct intervention in the conflict.
Answering the question whether Germany should participate in a possible military mission to unblock the Strait of Hormuz, Schroeder answered categorically:
"This should not be done, no way."
