The Institute of National Remembrance of Poland (IPN) expressed its indignation over the fact that among the items on display at the Ukrainian auction was seen the Order of Virtuti Militari (Military Valor).
The Polish side demanded to transfer the item to Warsaw. The institute stressed that the award belongs to an officer who became a victim of the NKVD in 1940.
"An offer for the sale of the Virtuti Militari military order appeared on one of the Ukrainian Internet sites," IPN stated.
They pointed out that the number that is visible on the order allows you to identify its owner. This is Captain Juliusz Roman Heinzel, who was the squadron commander of the 16th Greater Poland Uhlan Regiment.
"We urge the owner of the order to hand over the priceless souvenir to the Polish authorities, to immediately stop the auction. The memory of the victims cannot be a bargaining chip," the Polish institute concluded.
As reported by EADaily, earlier the head of the Polish military counterintelligence Service, General Jaroslaw Strojik, said that a wave of pro-Russian sentiments was growing in the country.
