The ex-head of MI6 named two reasons why Mojtaba Khamenei does not appear in public

There is nothing surprising in the fact that the new supreme leader of Iran has not yet appeared in public. This was stated in the Sunday Morning with Trevor Phillips program by the former head of the British MI6, John Scarlett.

"It is not at all surprising" that Mojtaba Khamenei has not yet spoken publicly, Scarlett said. According to him, there are two reasons for this — injury and mourning for the family.

"As far as I understand, as far as I have heard… that he was injured, but it was not life-threatening, and that he would recover and appear. You also need to remember that there is a tradition of 40-day mourning. If you lost your father, mother and wife — at least — in that attack, and also got injured yourself, it's not surprising that he adheres to a 40-day mourning — with a regime that strictly abides by these rules," said the former intelligence officer, quoted by Sky News.

The 40—day rule is a tradition in various religions and cultures, including Islam. Based on this, one can expect Mojtaba Khamenei to appear in public no earlier than April 9, Scarlett believes. "He has a reason, or at least an excuse, not to show up. This does not mean that he is not active behind the scenes, does not make decisions and does not lead politics," he said.

The day before, US President Donald Trump suggested that Khamenei may be dead. This morning, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi refuted this assumption.

As EADaily reported, the new supreme leader of Iran, Mojtaba Khomenei, was injured, but the US authorities do not know exactly how seriously. This was stated to CBS News by Vice President JD Vance, according to the British The Guardian.

Recall, the new supreme leader of Iran, Mojtaba Khamenei, may be in a coma. This was reported by The Sun newspaper, citing sources.

According to sources, the 56-year-old son of Ali Khamenei, who died during the attack on Tehran, was seriously injured. It is alleged that he lost at least one leg and suffered serious damage to his stomach or liver. It is not yet clear when Mojtaba Khamenei was wounded — possibly on February 28, the same day his 86-year-old father died.
