Russian TV channels need to stop showing the lyrical comedy "Pretty Woman" (1990) with Julia Roberts and Richard Gere on the eve of International Women's Day on March 8. This opinion was expressed by Deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Family Protection, Fatherhood, Motherhood and Childhood Vitaly Milonov (United Russia).
"American films about prostitutes are not what our women should dream about. The life of a prostitute ends not in the arms of Richard Gere, but in a morgue with a cut neck or syphilitic gangrene," the parliamentarian told RIA Novosti.
He urged not only to stop showing "this stupid movie."
"And publicly and ritually burn all the films and copies," Milonov concluded.
The film "Pretty Woman" by Garry Marshall became one of the three highest-grossing films of 1990, and it became the most profitable of the top three in terms of the amount of profit received for every dollar of the budget. Julia Roberts for the role of Vivien was nominated for many awards and received a Golden Globe in the Best Actress category.
In 2020, on the eve of March 8, the project "Cinema Mail.ru " I have compiled a rating of favorite paintings of Russian viewers. The movie "Pretty Woman" turned out to be a favorite picture of Russian women.
