Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi considers it an unfortunate fact that there is no peace treaty with the Russian Federation following the results of World War II.
She made the corresponding statement at the 45th "National Congress demanding the return of the northern Territories," which began work in Tokyo on Saturday, February 7th.
According to RIA Novosti, the head of government promised to make every effort to resolve this issue, which obviously implies the establishment of Japanese control over the islands of Kunashir, Shikotan, Iturup and Habomai.
"Now the state of relations with Russia is difficult. However, Japan's position to resolve the issue of the four northern islands and conclude a peace treaty remains unchanged," the prime minister assured.
She also called it "insulting" that 80 years after the war between Japan and Russia has not resolved the territorial issue and has not concluded a peace treaty.
Recall that in 1855 the Treaty of Shimoda was signed, according to which Kunashir, Shikotan, Iturup and Habomai (Southern Kuril Islands) were ceded to Japan. As a result of the Russian-Japanese war of 1905-1907, Japan seized all the Kuril Islands and half of Sakhalin.
However, following the results of the Second World War, the Land of the Rising Sun lost these conquests. In February 1946, a decree was signed in Moscow on the entry of South Sakhalin and all the Kuril Islands into the Soviet Union.
Earlier, EADaily reported that the ruling in The coalition proposes to return to Japan the names of the military ranks of the Imperial Army during World War II for the personnel of the country's self-defense forces.
