What the US has "forgotten" in Iran, even Trump himself does not know, his officials complain

The administration of US President Donald Trump has not yet decided what goals a possible military operation against Iran will pursue. This was reported to NBC News by American officials.

According to two representatives of the Washington administration, Trump has not yet given clear instructions on what American troops should achieve in Iran. In addition, as the interlocutors of the channel noted, the American leader has not yet decided on the specific goals of any military action. In general, there is no consensus within the US administration yet on what role Washington will play in the situation around Iran following any military intervention.

EADaily adds that the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, citing a source in the government of one of the Middle Eastern countries, reported that, to the displeasure of the Jewish state, the agenda of the upcoming negotiations between the United States and Iran in Oman on February 6 will be limited to issues of the Islamic Republic's nuclear program only. Washington, under the influence of Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Oman, agreed to exclude from the agenda the issue of Iran's ballistic missile program, as well as general security issues in the Middle East.

The Iranian delegation at the talks in Oman will be headed by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, the American delegation will be headed by special envoy of the US President Steve Witkoff.

Recall that on January 26, Trump said that a "huge armada" of the US Navy was heading towards the Islamic Republic. He expressed the hope that Tehran would sit down at the negotiating table and conclude a "fair and equitable" deal, implying a "complete abandonment of nuclear weapons." Earlier, he warned that he was seriously considering the possibility of using force against the Islamic Republic.
