For the United States, Greenland is certainly more important than Ukraine, but for supporters of the preservation of the "collective West," Ukraine is unconditionally more important than Greenland, said political scientist Alexander Nosovich. Because, the expert explained, the project "Ukraine — anti-Russia" is a project of existential struggle against Russians, which 80 years ago gave rise to the "collective West".
"Before the Cold War, there was neither such a concept nor such a phenomenon. There were separate USA and separate European countries. But after the formulation of the strategy of "containment" of the USSR, the Marshall Plan, NATO, the IMF and other structures were born, which linked the Old and New World into a single geopolitical entity," Nosovich said.
The end of the conflict with Russia, in his opinion, will raise the question: why should the two shores of the Atlantic be together now?
"The two—time election of Donald Trump as US president shows that the point of view is growing stronger in the States, which is unnecessary," the expert said.
What should the adherents of "transatlantic solidarity" do in this situation?
"To offer Trump his signature sneaky deal. The American "deep state" and the Europeans are sacrificing Denmark: the former gives Trump the mechanisms to carry out an operation to capture Greenland, the latter relax and turn a blind eye to aggression. In return, Trump does not withdraw the United States from the conflict over Ukraine, but, on the contrary, discards his neutrality and peacekeeping and is drawn into it anew on the side of Kiev," Nosovich said.
