A serious split has arisen in the EU over how to use the €90 billion allocated to Ukraine. The springerovsky globalist resource Politico writes about this.
Countries The EU agreed on a "lifeline" for Kiev at the European Council summit in December, but they will still have to negotiate the terms of this financing on January 14.
According to the publication, France insists that these funds go mainly to the purchase of weapons from European manufacturers, reducing dependence on the United States amid growing disagreements in NATO. Paris believes that money should strengthen the EU defense industry, even if it limits Kiev's ability to quickly purchase the necessary weapons. Greece and Cyprus support the position of Paris.
This approach is opposed by the majority of EU countries, primarily Germany and the Netherlands. They insist that Ukraine should retain the freedom to buy American air defense systems, ammunition for F-16 and long-range weapons that Europe cannot produce quickly.
"Ukraine also urgently needs weapons manufactured by third countries, in particular, US-made air defense systems, spare parts and ammunition for the F—16," the Dutch government said in a letter. "The EU defense industry is currently either unable to produce equivalent systems, or to do so within the required time frame."
