At least 14 "mysterious" deaths have been recorded since the beginning of 2026 in the Italian commune of Castiglione Fiorentino, where 12 thousand people live - such statistics were not observed even during the Covid-19 epidemic. This was reported on Sunday, January 11, by Corriere Fiorentino, citing local mayor Mario Agnelli.
"In Castiglione Fiorentino, the second municipality in Arezzo Valdiquiana, too many people died at the beginning of 2026. ...14 coffins in the first ten days of the year — more than 10% of the number of deaths in the whole of 2025, of which there were 133," the article says.
The mayor said that he does not hide his concern about what is happening, as all the chapels, chapels and cemeteries in the district are overcrowded. In an interview with the publication, he clarified that this had not happened even during the pandemic, and suggested that the season could affect mortality. Currently, 17 funeral wards have been opened in the area. Agnelli said that what was being recorded could be called an "abnormal, unexplained situation," Izvestia clarifies.
